JENNIFER CASAROTTI TROCH
ME | MY STORY | MY INTENT
I am a freelance creator in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a special interest in photographing sports. I remember days in the high school darkroom, blindly wrapping film around a metal spool, anticipating the process, hoping I didn't have edges touching. That anticipation was matched only during the wait time between dropping film cartridges at the local drugstore and picking up the envelope with the finished prints - hoping for a few good ones out of a roll of 36. Photography has always been a hobby, and I enjoy sharing the results of a few well-timed clicks of the camera with the people I care about. Every click of the camera helps me learn more about this art form. When I look at each shot, I almost always find something in the details that tells a bigger story. In Amor Towles's book, The Lincoln Highway, the sweet-natured character, Wallace "Woolly" Wolcott Martin, says,
...the funny thing about a picture is that while it knows everything that’s happened up until the moment it’s been taken, it knows absotively nothing about what will happen next. And yet, once the picture has been framed and hung on a wall, what you see when you look at it closely are all the things that were about to happen. All the un-things. The things that were unanticipated. And unintended. And unreversible.
Thanks to digital photography, I'm often shooting over a thousand pictures at a single sporting event, then instantly seeing the results. While some parts are faster, I spend hours color-correcting, cropping, and editing - enjoying that escape in the creative process. After enough people asked if they could hire me, I decided to take a few jobs when I could. Looking at more established photographers, I realized that photos are expensive...so I've tried to keep affordable pricing that allows more people to enjoy them.
